Guillaume Sokoloff

Guillaume Sokoloff (1986, Les Lilas)
Guillaume Sokoloff is a multi-media artist who graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Rueil-Malmaison in 2009 and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2013.
Sokoloff is known for his exploration of urban aesthetics through video and installation.
His research delves into the industrial aesthetics of the periphery, with its acoustic barriers, bridges and prefabricated walls, capturing seemingly banal details and patterns from the window of a moving train or car. The artist intervenes by using three key elements - time, movement and speed - to activate the repetition of these geometric patterns, shapes and structures, transforming their functional purpose into something visually appealing. By highlighting these architectural elements on the fringes of the suburbs, often beyond our privileged perspective, the artist draws our attention to the barriers that divide and separate our society, whether they be tangible, such as concrete walls, or imperceptible and silent, such as social impositions. Sokoloff presents his work in the form of site-specific installations that integrate with existing architecture, offering viewers a fresh perspective on the environment around them.
